Our Background

The North west and Botswana District is one of the twelve Districts that are affiliated to the Connexion of the Methodist Church In Africa. Initially, it formed part of the Western Transvaal, Bophuthatswana and Botswana District until the year 1981 when District demarcations were revised. It was after this milestone in history and with some evolutions that took place then, led to the District being renamed North west and Botswana in 1994. During the time of its formation, the District heads, who are now District Bishops were called Chairmen.

Its chronological Bishopric history is as follows:

• District Chairman: Rev Booi (1979-1981)
• District Chairman: Rev ME Lengana (1982-1989)
• District Chairman: Rev GJ Kunene (1990-1998)
• District Bishop: Rev MD Mahlatsi ( 1999-2009)
• District Bishop: Rev NJ Ramokhoase (2010 -to date)

The District serves a specific geographical area of the North west province in South Africa and some southern part of the Republic of Botswana, hence its name. It is made up of seven Circuits, being; Mahikeng, Lichtenburg, Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom, Madikwe, Mabeskraal and Hebron.
